Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 1344 -- JOINT COMMITTEE ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT POLICY AND
PLANNING

SPONSOR:  Champion (Dempsey)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Job
Creation and Economic Development by a vote of 16 to 1.

This bill modifies the rotation of the chairman and vice chairman
of the Joint Committee on Economic Development Policy and
Planning.  Currently, the positions are rotated on an annual
basis between the House of Representatives and the Senate.  The
bill requires the positions to rotate biennially and explains
that the chairman and vice chairman are appointed by either the
President Pro Tem of the Senate or the Speaker of the House of
Representatives.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and
FY 2007.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill will give members of
the joint committee a longer tenure, allowing them more time to
work.  The bill also clarifies the manner in which the chair and
vice chair are appointed.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Champion.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
